CHOSEN AT RANDOM

UNKNOWN WAR HERO FOR WESTMINSTER OLD SECRET REVEALED United P.A..—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 1 p.m. LONDON, Friday. After 11 years the secret of how the unknown warrior was chosen from the thousands lying in France was revealed by Rev. George Kendall, who was then Senior Chaplain of the 63rd Naval Division and who was responsible, with others, in the transport of the warrior to England. Mr. Kendall discloses that the body was chosen from five others, all of which were robed.

“We took one from an unknown grave in Ypres, and in the Salient, and others from the Marne, Arras and Cambrai fronts. The sixth came from a grave much further south.

“All six were identical in appearance. They were placed in a hut and the door locked until next morning when a general officer entered the hut alone and chose one coffin.

"The other five were reverently .reburied.

“People have asked me, do we know where the soldier who lies at Westminster comes from, and is he absolutely unknown.

“My answer is: ‘Yes; absolutely unknown ! ’ ”
