COMMUNITY SINGING

SEASON STARTS ON WEDNESDAY As a result of Mr. Vernon Drew’s recent visit to Australia, several innovations will b© introduced when community singing begins its season at the Town Hall next Wednesday. No free song books will be distributed as in past years, owing to the difficulties of copyright, but a selection of some 150 songs will be available at a small cost. Admission will be free and a collection will be taken up'for local charities. This follows the usual practice, £513 having been distributed during the last four years. The song leader for the first day will be Mr. Drew and the vocalist Miss Irene Erost. The services of Mrs. Barrington-Snow as pianiste have been secured for the season. The leaders for the three succeeding concerts will be Mr. Ren Barnes, the Rev. Jasper Calder and “Uncle Tom,” of IYA. Arrangements have been made with the Radio Company to broadcast the singing from IYA.
