AUTOMATIC CONTROL

SOLVING CITY’S TRAFFIC PROBLEMS MANUFACTURERS TO REPORT A suggestion placed before the City Council last evening by the Legal and By-Laws Committee was that a city street plan of Auckland should be sent to various overseas manufacturers of traffic-controlling apparatus. It was added that full particulars of the peculiar difficulties presented at certain of the city intersections should bo included. When reports of the manufacturers were received the whole question should be further considered. The committee’s recommendation followed the notice of motion by Cr. H. P. Burton that in view of the growth of traffic, and its attendant problems within the City, the council’s consideration of the installation of automatic signalling in its streets, the chief traffic inspector be instructed to proceed abroad, with a view to studying and reporting on traffic problems generally. Cr. Burton had suggested that the question be referred to the Legal and By-laws Committee for a report. The report was adopted by the council.
