Big City Burden The Hospital Board advised that the contribution payable by Auckland City to the funds of the board amounted to £57,480 for the year ending March 31, 1931. • «* * Dessert Cr. F. N. A Busy Sexton Interments at the Waikumete Cemetery during the last 12 months were 796, the greatest number since the “ ’flu year” in 1918. This information was put before the council in the annual report of the sexton of the Waikumete Cemetery. The number of interments was an increase of 152 over the previous year. There were 59 cremations, an increase of 15 over the previous year. * * * Will Not Stand It The Mayor (after Cr. J. R. Lundon had spoken at length): You come here wasting the time of the council. I am not standing for it. Cr. Lundon (hotly): Wasting time when £50,000 is involved (referring to market leases) ! J Misprint Excerpt from annual report of Zoo curator: “The morality for this year is slightly in advance of that for 192829. This may be accounted for by the increase of specimens from overseas . . Canon C. H. Grant Cowen, vicar of St. Matthew’s, invited the Mayor, councillors and City officers to attend a service on the King’s Birthday, June 3, at which the Governor-General will be present. The majority of the council expressed intention to attend.
