He said that preliminary steps had already been taken by Xorthcote and Birkenhead. The council agreed to accept the offer of £34 made by the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, for the relief of unemployment amonsr the exservicemen in the borough. The offer was conditional upon the borough giving a £ for £ subsidy the total sum to be expended on wages only. The Waitemata Electric-Power Board asked the council to take steps to fill the vacancy on the board caused by the resignation of Mr. J. W. Hayden. The borough solicitor forwarded a copy of an Order-in-Council authorising the layjng-ofT a street 40 feet wide connecting Frater Avenue and Saltburn Road. Cr. Colegrove was appointed a member of the Works Committee in place of Cr. Guiniven, who had tendered his resignation.
