ENGINEER QUERIES COUNCIL INSTRUCTIONS DIFFERENCE OF STATUS When some five or six months ago the Takapuna Borough Council changed the status of Mr. A. Slinger from its resident engineer to that of consulting engineer, the local body was under the impression that it had the right to call Mr. Slinger in at any time his services were required. Acting upon this impression, Mr. Slinger was recently instructed to take charge of the completion of the Blackrock sewerage outfall contract, immediately, the council notifying its intention to pay an over-riding commission of 6 per cent, of the cost of completion, in accordance with the minute bearing upon the matter of remuneration.
To this Mr. Slinger replied that the work mentioned was not covered by any agreement existing between the council and himself. After a discussion in committee, the council resolved last evening to instruct its solicitors to prepare an agreement between it and Mr. Slinger. It was further resolved that Mr. Slinger be asked to explain his attitude in declining work submitted to him as consulting engineer to the borough.
