YOUTH SUES EMPLOYERS
CAUGHT IN LIFT PULLEY The'hearing of a claim for £1 ; 0W damages by a youth. Charles Watt Greenslade, against Bond and Bond. Ltd., for injuries suffered while in the employ of the company, was continued before Air. Justice Smith and a jun* in the Supreme Court, this morning. Air. Haddow appeared for the plaintiff and Air. Sellers for the defendant Details of the claim are £ 937 genera* damages, £ll medical and hospital expenses. and £52 loss of wages for fi v « months For the defence, it was claimed that the lift and pulley which were responsible for injuring Greenslade’s hand were protected as required by the Inspection of Alachinerv Act and ha® been inspected and passed by an inspector. Plaintiff had been warned not to rid* up in the lift or to go so near the machinery that an accident might happen. Defendant further claimed th*t if the facts wore as alleged by plaintiff, he had voluntary run the risks ©t an accident, and was not. therefore, entitled to damages.' In sitting on the sacks which were piled near the lif T » plaintiff had disobeyed orders not to go near the machinery. It was held that the accident did not arise out of, or in the course of employment "When the case was continued morning. Dr. Alilsom was called to give evidence. He outlined the injuries received by plaintiff and said that whether they would affect plaintiff"* future earning capacity, would depend upon his adaptability. Questioned by Air. Haddow, witness admitted that the injuries would be tender and liable to remain permanently painful. (Proceeding.)
