SIX MEN FINED
SURPRISE POLICE VISIT Six men, who were found on the premises of the Victoria Hotel after hours on April 21, Avere fined a total of £ 8 at the Police Court this morning The visit to the hotel was made at 10.30 p.m. by Sergeant Classen, who said he found the men, some on the stairs and some in a bedroom. One man had been accosted leaving the hotel. The men were sober and denied having liquor, but had no legitimate excuse for being in the hotel. Duncan McGregor and George Carr, who Avere represented by Mr. McLiver, pleaded guilty and were each fined £1 and costs. Andrew J. McMahon and Joseph Hollis, Avho Avere represented by Mr. Bennett, pleaded not guilty. After hearing police evidence Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., fined them each £2 and costs. Mr. Bennett pleaded guilty for Augustus Jorden, who Avas fined £1 and costs. William Francis Ellis, who did not appear, was fined £ 1 and costs.
