Fraser, Marine Superintendent of the Union Steamship Company, arrived at Auckland this morning and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Captain A. do T. Nevill, B.Sc., R.N.Z.A., has been appointed staff officer to the Director of Air Services at General Headquarters, with the rank of flight-lieutenant. Mr. J. R- Fow, Mayor of Hamilton, left for Wellington last evening to confer with officials of the Public Works Department and the Treasury regarding borough affairs. Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, chairman of the War Pensions Board, and Mr. J. D. Harper and Dr. A. W. Izard, members of the board, are in Auckland. The hoard will sit tomorrow and will then visit Hamilton and Rotorua. Bishop Liston left last evening for Gisborne, where he will lay the foundation stone of the Gisborne Convent on Sunday. On the following Sunday he will bless and open the newly-erected Roman Catholic Church at Piopio. Sir Maul Pomare will leave Wellington for San Francisco by the Makura on May 20. Sir Maui intends to avoid the New Zealand winter, and spend it in the milder climate of California. He will be accompanied by Lady Pomare. Mr. Orton S. Hintz, of the literary staff of the New Zealand ’‘Herald” and son of Mr. A. A. Hintz, of the Curran Street School, has been appointed by the New Zealand Press Association to tour England with the New Zealand cricketers in 1931.
