GELDINGS BARRED
N.S.W. AND VICTORIAN CLASSICS United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, Wednesday. The Australian Jockey Club and tba Victorian Racing Club have jointly decided to debar geldings from competing in the classic races of 3 932 and thereafter. The opinion is expressed that by al* lowing geldings to run in highlyendowed races for two-year-olds and three-year-olds an inducement is held out to owners to geld fine youngsters, without a trial, perhaps, before they have a reasonable chance to transmit their good qualities to progeny. Thus the primary objective of the clubs—-t* improve the breed of horses—is defeated. The new rule is not to apply to prestint yearlings. Gloaming. Ballymena, Prince Humphrey, Cupidon and Phar Lap are among the geldings which have been successful in past A.J.C, Derbies. All the English classic races are confined to entire colts and fillies. New Zealand classics are also open to geldings.
