ADELAIDE CUP A DESPERATE FINISH United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY", Wednesday. The race for the Adelaide Cup yesterday was robbed of much interest by the scratching of the champion Phar Lap. Margate, Phoenig, Whitenose and Spearflight. Phar La* was scratched an hour before the raca Mr. Telford said he had merely left Phar Lap in until the last minute a? a drawing card. He had been offered £I,OOO to run the champion, but declined. Temptation led the field throughout, but a hot challenge in the straight by Nadean caused terrific excitement. Temptation won by a short head, whikl Kirrkie, which came fast in the last furlong, was a neck away third. Etheltoa was fourth. Time, 2.46 i.
