Advancing toward the Honan Province it captured Pochow, a strategic point north of Anhwei. A report from the Shantung battlefront states the rebels attacked and . were repulsed with severe losses. What are believed to be the decisive battles of the present war are being fought in the vicinity of Hsuchow. Generals Feng Yuh-siang and Yen Hsi-Shan are rushing available troops to prevent the Government advance along the Lunghai railway. In the event of the rebels capturing ! Hsuchow, the Government will face | a serious situation. President Chiang Kai-shek therefore ! is personally directing operations, and j it is believed he is capable of resist* ; ing any Kuominchun attack.
