The Salvation Army in Hamilton held its 42nd anniversary services in the Bryce Street Citadel on Sunday. Major Middlemiss, of Welington, conducted all gatherings. Effects ’of the dry spell are particularly noticeable in the streams about the Waikato, which are running very low. Creeks which usually carry a big flow in May are merely trickling with water. Complaints have been made of the dangerous nature of the loose metal on the Hamilton-Te Awamutu highway at Melville. On Saturday, a motor-cyclist was pitched heavily from his machine as the result of a skid, and was lucky to escape with abrasions. * * * On the occasion of his retirement Mr. F. Medland. of the mechanical staff of the “Waikato Times.” who has served 14 years with the journal, was made the subject of a presentation at a gathering of the staff yesterday afternoon. The Revs. P. Paris, of Hamilton: A. O. Harris, of Hamilton East, and F. J. Parker, of Frankton. are representing the district at the Methodist Synod at Rotorua. On Saturday a meeting convened by Miss A. Greville decided to form a Fabian Club in Hamilton. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P.; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. F. Kent-Johnson and A. Henderson; secretary and treasurer. Miss A. Greville: committee. Mesdames Boswell, Lewis and Mr. W. F. Johns. * * * The latest move in connection with the dispute between the Domain Board and The Hamilton Tennis Club over the question of a lease of the Rosstrevor Street courts, is the appeal by Mr. R. D. McFarland, president of the club, for a commission to give a ruling.
