WATER IN BUTTER

DAIRY COMPANY FINED From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Monday. In the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., this morning, Horace Alfred Rowle was charged with selling butter containing more than 16 per cent, of water. For the prosecution it was stated that a pound of butter manufactured by the Spring Head Dairy Company had been tested and found to contain .25 per cent, more water than is allowed under the regulations. Counsel for the defendant explained that the factory had just been taken over by the defendant, and was churning a quantity of butter. It was a difficult matter to regulate as it was not possible to test the whole of the churn. There was no ■wilful intention. A fine of £5 was imposed, and defendant ordered to pay costs amounting to £1 3s lid.
