BRIDGES SWEPT AWAY
LANDSLIDES AND FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND DAMAGE BY CLOUDBURST Reed. 10.50 a.m. BRISBANE, Today. Heavy damage was caused in the South Coast district during the weekend by torrential rains, which flooded the watercourses, sweeping away several bridges, flooding farms, and causing landslides. At Bald Knob, 13 inches fell in 24 hours. The Great Northern Road is impassable, the river being seven feet over the bridges. At Wooloolah, the Obi Valley is flooded, and the bridge over the Obi River has been swept away. Tile water there is the highest for 30 years. Telephone posts and fencing have been washed away. A cloudburst at Sandy Creek caused much damage to crops and business premises.
