BOAT CAPSIZES ON BAR
FATHER DROWNED, SON AND DAUGHTER SAVED HEAVY SEA RUNNING P?'ess Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. A drowning fatality occurred at Mokau on Saturday, when an elderly man, Mr. E. Atman, accompanied by his son and daughter, went fishing in a flat-bottomed boat. A heavy sea was running on the bar at the time, and while Mr. Atman was attempting to cross the bar at about 1.30 p.m. the boat capsized. The accident was observed from the shore, and Mr. Frank Rattenbury and Whenteni, a Maori, launched a boat. They were able to save the son and daughter, but the father was drowned.
