Thousands of white-clad children bearing the Crusaders’ cross on their breasts, many being African converts, received communion at the hands of Cardinals and Bishops while 4,000 delegates to the Eucharistic Congress knelt in prayer at an open-air service, preparatory to the opening of the congress. Delegates and pilgrims were present from all parts of the British Empire.
