The Borough Council employees engaged on bituminising work on the Tutanekai-Hinemoa Street intersection, in order to get the work done before rain set in, were working in the moonlight on Thursday night. * * * Owing to difficulties of motorists in securing visibility on the streets at night the authorities are altering the position of the centre overhead lights to an offset position. The South Auckland Methodist Synod is to sit in Rotorua on Monday under the chairmanship of the Rev. W. A. Burley, of Thames. The Mayor will welcome the visitors on behalf of the townspeople. Officers of the Public Works Department have located some particularly fine road metal near Taupo. -Building permits of a value of £3,026 10s have been issued by the Borough Council since its last meeting. Miss Evelyn F. Ball has been appointed infant mistress in place of Miss McDonagh. Mr. G. Barber, headmaster of Rotorua Primary School, reported to the committee that the roll was now 515, with an average attendance of 452.4, which placed the school in grade VI.C., allowing a staff of eight assistants and two substitute assistants.
