PLAZA
“PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ” New songs are being sung, played and danced to in “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” the United Artists all-dialogue musical extravaaganza starring Harry Richman, now at the Plaza Theatre. Several of the songs were written especially for the picture by Irving Berlin, who fashioned them with the style and delivery of the versatile Richman in mind. Richman sings all of them, the orchestra of the theatre in which Richman, as the principal character, makes his first hit, plays them, and an especially selected and trained chorus dances to their strains. “Puttin’ on the Ritz” is an original story by John W. Considine, and was directed by Edward Sloman. Joan Bennett plays opposite the star and James Gleason, Lilyan Tashman, Aileen Pringle, Purnell B. Pratt, Richard Tucker, Eddie Kane and others are prominent in the cast. AKARANA YACHT CLUB DANCE The usual Saturday evening dance of the Akarana Yacht Club will be held In the clubhouse, Mechanics’ Bay, this evening. There is excellent music, and a free bus runs from Endeans Buildings.
