FIXTURES FOR SEASON CLUB NOTES AND NEWS At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Friendly Societies’ Indoor Bowling Association dates were fixed for the ensuing season. All tourneys are to be held on Saturday afternoons, in the Drill Hall. Ponsonby, and will commence each day at 1.30 sharp The list of fixtures is as follows: Juno 7 and 14. —Friendly societies' fours. Entries close Thursday, May July 5 and 12. —Friendly societies’ pairs. Entries close Thursdav, June 19. August 2 and 9.—Open fours. Entries close Thursday, July 17. August 23 and 20.—A.0.F. pairs. September 13 a nd 20. —Friendly societies’ singles. Entries close Thursday, August 2S. Owing to the size of the tourneys and the great amount of work entailed in order to get a prompt start, each lodge, court or tent will be required to fix its own mat where directed by the floor committee. It should be ~ distinctly marked. EVENTS OF THE WEEK On Saturday last, the Ancient Order of Foresters started their tours tourney in the Drill Hall, Ponsonby. A total of 13 teams entered, and six rounds have been played. The three leading teams (City of Henderson 6 wins. Nil Desperandum 5i wins and City of Auckland B 5 wins) are all well in the hunt, but with six more games to play, many changes may take place, and the winner may come from one not so well placed. On present form, last year’s winners have to be very seriously considered, although they have yet to meet their two next nearest opponents. The Independent Order of Rechabites Bowling Association met on Monday night at Hope of Eden Tent No. 10 for the purpose of presenting the trophies won during the past season. There was a good attendance of enthusiasts and president Tony Jenkin presented the trophies as follow: Pascoe Cup, instituted in 1914 and competed for annually since, won by Hope of Eden Tent No. 10 (F. Chester, Mrs. Francis, J. McPherson, L. Francis, skip). The cup was received on behalf of his Lent by Chief Hangar Bro. W. B. Gilliam. The runners-up were Hope of Lynndale Tent.
Champion singles, won by J. McPherson (second year in succession). Silver cup to be held for one year and small silver cup,, his own property. Runner-up, H. Campling, small silver cup.^
Pairs tourney, winners, "VV. Mayall and A. Beer (skip). Silver cup each. These brothers are also holders of Pascoe Gold Buckles for one year. On Thursday next lit the Methodist ITall, Great North Road, Grey Lynn, near corner of Surrey Street, the members of the first year’s teams who played in the recent Easter tournament will try their hands at indoor bowls. Their reunion, which has been convened by Mr. Tony Jenkin, who is practically the father of indoor bowls, should be a most enjoyable one, and the greens should be keen enough to suit the most ardent of them.
