PUBLICITY EXPENDITURE

“NO CURTAILMENT LIKELY” Prom Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. “It is safe to say that nothing will be done to jeopardise the advertising of this country abroad,” said the Hon. P. A. de la JPerrelle, Minister in charge of the Government Publicity Department, yesterday when discussing the rumour that the Government proposed to save money at the expense of the Publicity Office. "I regard publicity as essential,” he continued, "and I can give an assurance that expenditure on that department is not being cut down out of proportion to the expenditure on any other department. Ho curtailment of expenditure will be made that will affect the efficiency of the department in the work it is doing abroad, “I am hopeful, in fact, that the proposals we have in mind regarding publicity will add to the efficiency of the system. I regard the tourist business generally as one of our great essentials, and I think that we should make still greater efforts to encourage overseas people to visit New Zealand.” The Minister said he anticipated calling a conference at an early date of thpse who cater commercially for visitors from abroad, in order to" discuss with representatives of tlie Tourist and Publicity Office means of cooroinating the various services on which the tourist- is dependent. He felt there was room for a greater measure of co-operation between the hotels, the transport services and other facilities essential to the comfort of visitors from abroad.
