MERCER TRAIN SMASH
DEPARTMENTAL INQUIRY COMMENCED THIS MORNING An official inquiry into the cause of the railway smash at Mercer vesterday morning, when the WellingtonAuckland express struck the back of a moving goods train, was opened by the Railway Department at Mercer this morning. Mr. L. Casey, divisional superintendent of railways for the North Island, Mr R. G. Roussell, general superintendent of transportation, and fff . " assistant-signal and electrical engineer, arrived from We’; rngton today to attend the inquiry.
