WEST COAST RESIDENTS CELEBRATE REUNION TO BE HELD Two early pioneers of the West Coast, Mr. and Mrs. P. F. O’Brien, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday. * Mr. O’Brien, who was born in County Clare 89 years ago, has lived in New Zealand for 6G years. He left Liverpool on the Lightning in 1864, taking 13 weeks on the voyage out. After 12 months spent in Queensland, he arrived in Nelson and proceeded to Westport, where he joined the Post and Telegraph Office, retiring 20 years ago after 36 years’ service.

Sixty-six years ago the sailing vessel Royal Standard carried Mrs. O’Brien to Melbourne. Her maiden name was Jane O’Keefe and she was then two years old, a native of County Cork. She lived in Melbourne for 14 years and then sailed for Westport, where she married Mr. O’Brien. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Walshe, who is now dead. They had nine children, six of whom are now living, Mrs. R.\ Williams, Mrs. J. Ford, Mr. T. O’Brien, Mr. M. O’Brien, Mr. W. O’Brien, all of Auckland, and Mr. E. O’Brien, of Christchurch. All six, with the exception of Mr. E. O’Brien, are to be present at a reunion to be held this evening at the residence of Mrs. R. Williams, Carlton Gore Road. About 30 old "West Coast residents will al£o attend.
