Round the Churches
The sixth anniversary of the work of tfie Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher in Auckland will be celebrated by services at the Beresford Street Congregational Church. At the seven o’clock evening service Mr. Fletcher will speak upon “The Glory of the Gospel.” A musical worship meeting will be conducted by the Auckland Higher Thought Temple, starting at 6.40 p.m. Ip the morning Mrs. L. Lew in will speak upon “The Teacher.” Bible Sunday will be observed by the various Protestant Churches of the City and suburbs tomorrow, under the joint auspices of the Auckland Auxiliary and Council of Christian Congregations. “The Audacity of Christian Missions in India” will be the subject of the Rev. John Ings at the eleven o’clock morning service of the Grange Road Baptist Church. * * * The Rev. W. Lawson Marsh will be the preacher at both services of the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Devon port. A Girl Guide parade* and a special monthly sermon delivered to young folk will be the features of the 11 o’clock morning service of the Edend.ale Presbyterian Church, Balmoral Road. Services, morning and evening, will be conducted by the Somervell Memorial Church, Remuera. • * * The Methodist Central Mission will conduct morning and evening services. * * Foreign Mission services will be held in the Pitt Street Methodist Church tomorrow. The Rev. W. Walker will preach in the morning, and in the evening the Rev. A. H. Voyce will speak on his experiences as the pioneer missionary on the island of Bougainville, in the Solomons. St. John’s Church, Ponsonby, celebrates its foreign missionary anniversary on Sunday. The Rev. A. Harry Voyce, pioneer missionary of Bougainville, Solomon Islands, is the morning preacher. The evening service will be taken by the Rev. George Frost, the newly-appointed minister. The choir will sing the anthem, “There Comes at Times a Stillness.” * * * “The Son of Man” is the subject to be taken by Mr. E. P. Clark, of Australia, at the International Bible Students’ meeting tomorrow evening. Services at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. will lake j> lace at the Spiritual Scientists’ Churcn, Ponsonby. Mr. 1. Lilly will speak at the men’s meeting of the Y.M.C.A. tomorrow afternoon*. “Everlasting Punishment” will be the subject taken at the First Church of Christ, Scientist. The Rev. R. C. Roberts will preach at the Mount Eden Congregational Church. His subject in the morning will be “The Church and the Adolescent.” Mr. J. A. McLeod will speak on "Twenty Centuries of Christianity” at ihe Christadelphians’ meeting tomorrow evening.
The Veil. Archdeacon Simkin will preach at the 11 o’clock service at the Cathedral, Parnell. In the evening the Rev. Canon Fancourt will preach on “The Unseen Companion.” At St. Matthew’s, Wellesley Street, the Rev. Canon Grant Cowen and the Rev. R. H. Hobday will be the preachers. “Self Expression” will be the subject of Mr. Fitton, at the 7 o’clock evening service of the Progressive Church of Spiritualists. Newmarket. WAIUKU PARISH Special to THE SUX WAIUKU, Friday. The annual meeting of Waiuku parishioners took place this week. The vicar appointed Mr. D. Makgill vicai's warden, and the vestry, elected Mr. A. S. Vaughan as parishioners’ warden. The following were appointed to the vestry:—Messrs. O. Henry (treasurer), A. L. Hull, W. E. Jerram, R. S. Naylor, W. Nelson, P. Waugh and W. L. West. GORDONTON PARISH From Our Oxen Con'espondent HAMILTON, Friday. A decision to instruct the incoming committee to proceed as soon as possible with the erection of a new church at Gordonton was made at the annual meeting of the Gordonton parishioners. It was stated that the committee had £550 in hand for the work, and that the building was urgently needed. Messrs. H. D. Desmond, Jenkins, G. Clark, W. J. Bridgeman and E. C. Stanley were elected members of the local committee.
