COSTUME BALL
FUNCTION FOR GUIDE FUNDS The members of the Auckland Girl Guides’ Association Executive, who are responsible for the arrangements for the children’s fancy dress ball to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday next, report that great interest is being shown, and they hope for the support of all those interested in the movement. The tiny tots’ hour will be from 5.30 to 8 p.m., and after that the children over and adults will have the floor, rhere will be a parade of both sections, and prizes for the prettiest, the most original and the most economical costumes, as well as for the best group. The Mayoress, Mrs. A. TJ. Campbell, and Mrs. E. 11. B. Milsom will award the prizes at the conclusion of the parades. The prices of admission are most reasonable, and spectators will be admitted to the gallery at a nominal charge. The committee asks all citizens to give their support to the event and thus swell the funds of the asso-’ elation, which is entirely dependent on voluntary assistance. SEWING SACHETS The sewing sachet is a fascinating alternative to the old-f,ashioned workbasket or work-bag, and is particularly attractive to the woman who likes to take her work with her when travelling. Made exactly like an oblong night-* dress case on a small scale, the sewing sachet is made in good tapestry lined with plain-coloured material the outside edge of which is bound with dull gold galou. The inside of the flap is fitted with twelve reels of coloured sewing cottons and silks, in the centre of which are arranged thimble scissors, crochet hook, knitting pins and a needlebook with cover to match the outside of the sachet itself. The pouch of the bag is large enough to hold oddments and the piece of work in hand.
