NEGLECTED CEMETERY

AREA TO BE IMPROVED The Devonport Borough Council last evening adopted a suggestion by Mr. T Walsh that the cleaning up of the old and neglected cemetery, on the slopes of Mount Victoria, should be put in hand. Owing to legal formalities the Devonport Borough Council, which is taking over the control of this cemetery from the Anglican Church authorities, cannot spend any rate money on improving the area, which it is hoped will be converted into a flower and ornamental cemetery. The relatives of those interred there are to be organ - ised as a committee to help to raise money, identify graves and generally prepare the way for later action by the council. The Town Clerk was authorised to circularise people likely to be interested in the suggestion.
