AUCKLAND DECEIVED?
ETCHING OF CAPTAIN COOK’S HOUSE CLAIMED NOT GENUINE United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 12.10 p.m. LONDON, Monday. The authorities of the Auckland Museum are apparently the victims of a deception. They possess the etching of the house at Leigh on Sea which was reputedly occupied by Captain Cook. The original certainly stands in High Street of the old town near the waterfront, but the only Cook who ever occupied it was Doctor Cook, whose spiritualistic tendencies scared the fisherfolk of the old days.
