LOST HIS CAR
GOOD SAMARITAN IS BETRAYED BEFRIENDED A STRANGER When on his ■way to Auckland on April 7, Mr. Kidd, of Puni, near Pukekohe, was accosted by a stranger who asked him for a lift to the city. Mr. Kidd, who complied with the request, has since had reason to regret his kind-heartedness. Mr. Kidd invited the man to jump into the car, and on the way to Auckland his passenger told him he was out of work and completely penniless. He said he could drive a car, though he did not have a driver's licence. Out of good-heartedness Mr. Kidd offered him the use of the car to obtain his driver’s licence in Auckland, thinking the man would thus be able to get a position as a truckdriver. On arrival in Auckland the man went up for his licence and got it without difficulty. After the test, Mr. Kidd asked him to drive the car to a friend’s place, as he had to do some business in the town. Since then he has seen neither the car nor his passenger, and the police are investigating. The car is a blue five-seater sedan and the registered number is 24-626.
