POWER FOR SILVERDALE
CANVASS OF DISTRICT URGED The supply of electricity to Silverhule was the question discussed at a public meeting in the Wade Hall yesterday afternoon. Messrs A E Ureenslade, S. E. Kennings and J. Mackie, members of the Waitemata i ower board, were present. A public meeting a fortnight ago had expressed indignation at the published statement that the board had. found it impracticable to recommend an extension of the line to Silverdale. said Mr. T. A. Bridson, who presided. The settlers were convinced that this conclusion had been reached as a result of an inadequate canvass. It was believed that a thorough canvass would provide the required revenue to cover the interest, sinking fund and depreciation charges on the capital expenditure, and it was understood that provision was made for the extension to feilverdale in the recent loan. Mr. Mackie said that there was no need for indignation, as the board desired to serve the outposts of its area providing this could be done without entailing loss. A committee was appointed to organise a thorough canvass of the whole district.
