SHIP’S CAPTAIN FINED
OFFENCE IN ALBERT PARK COMPLAINT BY WOMAN The captain of the City of Winnipeg, Egerton Edward Bulkeley, aged 55 years, who was arrested at 11.40 this morning, by Detectives Allsopp and. Nalder, was charged in the Police Court this afternoon with committing an indecent act. The act was said to have been committed in Albert Park this morning. He pleaded guilty to the offence. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that as a woman was passing through Albert Park she saw the accused sitting on the ground manicuring his nails. As she drew near him he committed the offence. She went to the detective office and, accompanied by Detectives Nalder and Allsopp, she proceeded to the spot where the offence had occurred. The woman saw the same man sitting about 100 yards away and as she approached him he again committed the offence. The detective said that the City of Winnipeg was sailing tomorrow and mentioned that there was provision for a fine in such an offence. For the accused, Mr. Allan Smytli said the explanation was difficult as the accused was not drunk. He was a married man with two children. He had been employed as master by one company for 16 years and had never been before any court in his life. The accused claimed that he had not committed the offence wilfully but had pleaded guilty because the evidence against him was very strong. The magistrate imposed a fine of £lO and costs.
