WINTER BATHING
HARDY FOLK ASK THAT BATHS BE OPENED CITY COUNCIL APPROACHED “In view of the fact that the preaching w inter is likely to be a u. mild one. we ask that the Shep! Beach Baths be kept open throughout the year.” This was tl.e plea by SS residents of Fonsonbv to the City Council © n Thursday evening - . The New Zealanders’ Association also asked that these baths be avan. able during the winter. The Parks Committee bad recom. mended that both the Shelly Beach and the Parnell Baths be closed from Mav 1 to September 30 as was done Last year. It proposed, however, to reply to the New Zealanders' Association that if some reasonable guarantee Is given lor the use of the Shelly Beach Baths Baths during the winter the position will be again considered. Cr. M. J. Bennett asked that the question of opening the Shelly Beach Baths in winter be referred back to the Parks Committee. The recommendation was adopted. Howefer, it was pointed out that the petition on the subject of closing Shelly Beach Baths was in any ease going before the committee.
