EASTER TRAFFIC
RECORD PERIOD FOR RAILWAYS REVENUE DECREASES Record Easter business is revealed by the holiday traffic returns of tha Auckland railway booking offices. Passengers are shown to be on the increase and more rolling-stock was used than in the corresponding period last year. Revenue, however, shows a decrease of £SO, which is attributed to the exceptionally low fares charged for the Sunday excursions between Auckland and Hamilton. The following table gives a comparison between Easter traffic for 1930 and 1929: 1930. 1920 Tickets sold .. .. 23.23 S 20,007 Seats reserved .. 17,243 15 4S~ Sleeping berths .. 1,237 1,'195 Total revenue .. £12,357 £12,407 There was a big rush of outward passengers on Thursday evening, 54 carriages being dispatched to Wellington as compared with 45 on the correspnding evening last year. Apart from suburban and local trains, 108 carriages left Auckland between 4 p.m. and midnight on Thursday, an increase of six. The trains which arrived from Wellington on Good Friday morning totalled 75 carriages, compared with 66 last year.
