“JACK OF ALL TRADES”
To walk at dizzying heights on narrow steel girders, to c£tch red-hot rivets in a tin funnel as they are sent soaring by a forge-tender three storeys below, are everyday events in the life of a steel worker. They are quite foreign to the motion picture actor, but with the modern trend toward the realistic presentation of roles on the screen, the artist must now be a veritable jack of all trades. In the early sequences of “Ladies Love Brutes,” George Bancroft’s next Paramount talkie, the star plays the role of a steel worker. To enact realistically the part, it was necesasry that he master the tricks of the trade. He learned to walk the girders and to have confidence while doing it, by first walking a narrow plank flat on the ground. This he did blindfolded. J.ater he was able to walk it confidently in the air without the bandage across his eyes. "Ladies Love Brutes” is now in production at the Hollywood studios under the direction of Rowland V. Lee. Mary Astor is cast in the feminine lead.
