ONE MAN ADMITS BURGLARY ROBBERY FROM HOUSE From Our Ovsn Correspondent WHANGAREI, Thursday. In the Whangarei Police Court this morning before Messrs. J. Dent and L. J. Brake, J.P.'s, William Thomas, 21, alias Powell, was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of George Pitney and stealing £2l 10s, the property of Beatrice Pitney, and a purse and contents valued at 15s. Raugi Harawana, 22, alias Sullivan. was charged with receiving £9 10s from Thomas, knowing it to having been dishonestly obtained, and also with stealing from Thomas Barry a watch chain and 2s, of a total value of £3 17s. Senior-Sergeant O'Grady said the two accused were in Maunu Road and saw Pitney leave his house. One of them entered the house and the other kept watch. George Pitney, a tailor, residing in Maunu Road, said he returned to work at 6.30 on the evening of the robbery and returned home at 10.30 p.m. He found the place disturbed and money missing from his daughter’s bedroom. While his wife and daughter went for the police he discovered the bathroom window open, with a barrel standing below it. Beatrice Pitney, a school teacher, said she left the money in a box on the table. Her jewellery case was upset, but nothing was missing. George Hendy, a tailor, said he made trousers,.for each accused. They tendered a £5 note in payment. Constable McKie said he inter viewed Thomas on April 17. He made a statement, saying he met Harawana in Auckland and they came to Whangarei together. - They entered the house and took the money and came out the same way they went in. He gave his mate £5. Later he gave his mate 30s more. When he changed a £5 note he gave Rangi another £2, making a total of £9 10s. His mate knew the money was stolen. Both accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
