WAR MEMORIAL STATUE DAMAGED BAYONET TORN FROM RIFLE JTress Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. A callous act- of vandalism is reported from Kaiapoi. This morning it was found that 'the bayonet fixed to the marble rifle on the war memorial statue had been torn away and disposed of. The act was the work of some irresponsible hooligan, as parts of the marble were found on the lawn surrounding the statue.
