BASIC WAGE FALLS

COST OF LIVING DROP IN NEW SOUTH WALES EMPLOYERS SAVE £500,000 SYDNEY, Friday. Following upon the quarterly adjustment of the cost of living figures the basic wage level has fallen by from 3s a week for clothing trade employees and clerks, to 5s 6d for wharf labourers. The saving to the employers in New South Wales is estimated at about £500,000 a year. That on the railways alone amounts to £320,000.
