UNEXPECTED TURN
REFORM AT PUREWA MR. DICKSON’S VIEWS Events took an unexpected turn at *Mr. W. P. Endean's meeting last evening. The Reform aspirant for the Parnell seat had finished his address to a meeting of Public Works employees at the Purewa Y.M.C.A. camp when the chairman, with the customary preface, said: "Mr. Dickson is now prepared to answer questions”— Quickly correcting himself, he stated that it was force of habit; he had presided at so many of Mr. Dickson’s meetings in the past. The slip gave Mr. J. S. Dickson, who was on the platform, an opening, however, to express the hope that the electors at Purewa would give the same support to Mr. Endean that they had accorded him in the past. The question before the electors at the byelection was not one of "Bill Endean or Sam Dickson,” but one of “Gordon Coates and Reform versus United.” Reform was not out to abuse auy party, but was content to leave it to the electors to decide whether the United Government had justified its election. Mr. Dickson was received with considerable applause.
