BEAT GOULDING IN GOLF FINAL PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Tuesday. After his victory over H. B. Lusk and a steady run of success up to the final, T. Goulding (Maungakiekie) was considered to have a good chance of " ] inning the Auckland provincial championship today. But he had to strike his colours to W. Mortice, who played sound, consistent golf throughout. The new champion gave a taste of his quality in the morning by putting out L. W. Delph (Auckland) 5 and 3. Both played excellent golf, but Mor-

rico was too consistently accurate for the Aucklander, and the match finished on the 15th. Ralph was also two down at the turn to Goulding, whose mastery of his iron shots was standing to him well. The match finished on the 15th with Goulding four up. The final was a hard battle all the way. Morrice was four strokes to the good at the turn (37 to 41). He was playing sound, correct golf, and giving nothing away. Goulding was erratic, but from now on, he made a determined effort to pull the game out of tho fire, and the closing stages provided some exciting golf. Morrice was one up, with one to play, when the two finalists reached tiie 18th tee. Both got away beautiful drives, and they reached to within a foot of the hole, each with his fourth. In the semifinals, Howden beat Laver 3 and 2, and Hotson beat Robertsqn at the 20tli one up. In the final, Hotson won 3 and 2. Toombs (Hamilton). First Bogey Handicap.—The playoff between those who tied yesterday resulted in Howden winning with a good score of 2 down. Leitch, 3 down, was runner-up. Second Medal Handicap, 18 holes. — C. Hotson, 81, 12 —69. Runner-up, A. G. Johns, 93, 22—71. Second Bogey Handicap.-.—V. Humphries, 3 up. Four-ball Best-ball Bogey Handicap. —J. and H. Hockie, S up. Putting Competition, nine holes.—lT. W. Fisher, 11. At the conclusion of play in the championship. Dr. H. Douglas presented the prizes and trophies to the winners.
