TOURING CRICKETERS
PONSONBY AT WAIHI From Our Own Correspondent WAIHI, Tuesday. The cricket season in Waihi was concluded during Easter, when the local eleven was, for the first time on record, victorious in both matches played, its opponent in each case this year being Ponsonbv (Auckland). The first match, which was opened on Friday and concluded on Saturday, was won by the substantial margin of 123 runs, the visitors compiling in all 129 runs and AVailii 252. In the second match, played yesterday, tho visitors batted first and knocked up SO, Gillespie top-scoring with 22. Waihi declared its innings closed for 120 for the loss of six wickets, and Ponsonby completed its second innings for a total of 84, leaving Waihi the winner by 40 runs on the first innings. WELLINGTON AT TAIHAPE From Our Own Correspondent TAIHAPE, Tuesday. A cricket match between Taihape and a Wellington representative team took place at Ngaurukehu yesterday, victory resting with Taihape by a margin of 47 runs. Wellington batted first and was dismissed for 226 runs (Brice 34, White 30. Blundell 22, Ross 18, Crook 13. extras 31). Chrystall took eight wickets for 99 runs, T. C. Lowry one for 26, Cave, one for 12. Taihape compiled 273, the chief scorers being T. C. Lowry 61, G. B. Chrystall 55. L. C. Hawk 42, extras 65. Brice took three wickets for 25, Blundell two for 55, W. Foley three for 22. HAMILTON AT MORRINSVILLE From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLE, Today. An enjoyable cricket match between Morrinsvil© and a young Hamilton team was played at Morrinsville on Saturday in ideal weather conditions. Morrinsville had a good lead on the first innings. Hamilton closed its second innings and left Morrinsville with about half an hour to bat. Some of the Morrinsville batsmen did not take matters very seriously, with the result that the side collapsed, and eight wickets were down for 26 runs.
