EMPRESS, NEWTON
In the all-dialogue version «f Thomas Hardy’s novel. ‘‘Under the Greenwood Tree,” which Cinema Art Films are screening at the Empress Theatre, Newton, are some of the greatest artistes in England, culled from the stage and silent screen. Harry Lachman showed wonderful strategy in selecting his cast for the picture, which was the first all-British talkie to be shown in Australia, ami one of the first to be heard here. The featured roles are played by actors whose ability has already been proved and whose voices underwent rigid tests. Among them is Marguerite Allan. John Batten, a clever younc Aucklander, Nigel Barrie and Wilfrid Shine.
