EGYPT’S ROYAL HEIR
PRINCE FAROUK GETS WESTERN TRAINING Crown Prince Farouk of Egypt, who has just passed his tenth birthday, is being educated as an Occidental, as befits a 20th century successor to the Pharaohs. He is the only son of King Fuad and Queen Nazli and, like his four sisters, bears a name beginning with “F” because King • Fuad believes this letter brings luck to his family. His step-sister, Princess Fewkia, who married Fakhry Pasha (another “F” for the family), lives most of the time in Paris, but the three younger sisters, the Princesses Fawzia, Faiza and Fiaka, are his constant playmates. King Fuad was educated in Europe, and Queen Nazli, whose Oriental beauty is most arresting, received an Occidental education and travelled through Europe extensively. Prince Farouk, who is fond of outdoor play and comradeship with his sisters, is being taught to be frank with his parents, to respect his instructors and, especially, to be courteous. King Fuad is most insistent in the matter of general courtesy, because he foresees in his son not only the future ruler of Egypt but an example to the young manhood of the nation.
