HARD RUGBY IN GAME FRANCE V. WALES FRANCE DISAPPOINTED Reed. 10.10'a.m. PARIS, Monday. France fervently wanted to defeat Wales in tile Rugby game at Colombes Stadium, not for the sake of beating Wales, but for winning the championship. Had Fraucd won she would also have gained the championship for the first time in history. There was a record crowd. The gates were shut an hour before the start. Honours in the scrums were fairly even. The French backs lacked method and chances went begging. The game was a trifle rough, and there were numerous instances of kicking and punching, and after the interval further rough play caused the referee to convene a meeting of both teams for a lecture. But the roughness only increased. The game was spoilt also by stoppages due to minor injuries and warnings. The Frenchmen got over the line and claimed a try, but the referee ordered a scrum. The crowd then let loose pandemonium, which reigned until the finish of the game. Wales won the game by two dropped goals and a try to nil.
