Easter Bowling
THIRD DAY’S PLAY
Greens Heavy After Rain
SUNDAY rain made green conditions less favourable for the third day's play of the Auckland Bowling Centred Easter tournament yesterday, though the greens improved as play proceeded. Contests were keen and interesting, the results often being in doubt until the final head was played. Inter-section play will take place today.

IN THE PROVINCE TAKAPUNA TOURNAMENTS Progressive pairs tournaments on the Takapuna green proved popular in the holidays. There were 28 players in one held on Saturday afternoon. Four skips tied, with four wins each: Burnett, Prentice, Christey and Robinson. When recourse was had to aggregate scores in order to decide the tie, it was found that here again Prentice and Christey were equal, with 32, and they agreed to divide the prizes. Of the leads there was another tie, at four wins each, between Eade, Walters and Blackwell, but Eade’s score of 37 in points, as against Walters’s 28, gave him the victory. There was another tournament yesterday with 16 competitors. Waterman proved the winning skip, with four wins, and Corfe, with a like score, headed the leads. PUKEKOHE The Buckland Bowling Club held a tourney on its green yesterday, when 26 teams entered, making a very successful tourney. Teams were entered from the following clubs: Hillsborough, Otaua, Clevedon, ManUrewa, Pukekohe, Te Papapa, Tuakau, Waiuku and Buckland. The winning pair comprised Wily and Wiggins, of Buckland, with five wins. Four teams scored four games each, the skips being Murdock (Otaua), Dawe (Clevedon), Field (Buckland) and Blake (Pukekohe). HIKURANGI The Hikurangi Bowling Club's tournament was continued on Saturday. In the semi-final, Gribble (Whangarei) bea£ Pearce (Kensington), by 32 to 17. The winning team played consistently throughout and established an early lead, which was maintained throughout the game. On the 17th head Gribble led 32—7, but as a result of good bowling Pearce reduced the lead. The other game between Taylor (Hikurangi) and Brewis (Portland), was closely contested, and on the 15th head the score was 14 all. On the 20th head Brewis held a comfortable position, leaving Taylor six to pick Up to win, the score at this stage being: Brewis, 20; Taylor, 15. Ferguson held the shot for Brewis on the last head, when the Hikurangi third, Westwell, killed the head, necessitating a replay. This was won by Taylor with a beautiful four, and the game ended: Brewis, 20; Taylor, 19. HAMILTON The Hamilton Easter pairs tournament was continued on the Hamilton Bowling /Club’s green yesterday in fine weather. Heavy rain fell early in the morning and the condition of the greens made it necessary to postpone the commencement of play until one o’clock and to shorten the heads. Pleydell and Sumner (Pukekohe) played Wheeler and Lucas (Frankton), by artificial light in the evening to decide the winners of A section, both having secured eight wins and one loss. The Pukekohe rink won by 9 points to 6. They will play Gallagher and Frost (Frankton), who secured 9 wins and no losses in section B, to decide the winners of the tournament.
