OTOROHANGA CARNIVAL BIG CROWD ATTENDS From Our Own Correspondent OTOROHANGA, Monday. An occasional cloud and a few spots of rain could not spoil the pleasure of the many thousands of visitors at the eleventh annual meeting of the Otorohanga Sports Club, reld at Otorohanga today. The patron, Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., was present. The Otorohanga open standing chop, 15-inch blocks, and the first prize of £35, was won by F. Underwood, of Maungaturoto. The Auckland cyclist, A. Rose, did remarkably well, being placed first in the half-mile, one mile, and two miles open cycle races. Quite an ovation greeted J. McLean, the veteran runner, from Auckland, who is now 62 years old, when he won the half-mile handicap. McLean has been a competitor at sports meetings for the past 42 years. At the dance in the evening, Mr. J. A. Ormsby, president of the club, thanked the public for the generous support accorded to the club, and introduced Mr. W. I. Broadfoot, who presented the prizes. Mr. Broadfoot congratulated the club on a meeting which was second in importance to none in the King Country, and had something appropriate and witty to say to each of the recipients of prizes. DONNELLY’S CROSSING MEETING

From Our Own Correspondent DARGAYILLE, Sunday. In beautiful weather, the Donnelly’s Crossing Athletic Club’s annual sports eventuated yesterday, when there was a record attendance of spectators. The various events were well patronised, and some keen finishes resulted. The sports were held on the new ground—a recently -acquired block of five acres, which has been well arranged for athletic purposes.
