NEW POST OFFICE

AUCKLAND WEST OPENS STEADY BUSINESS DONE The doors o£ the city’s latest post office, Auckland West, swung open at nine o’clock this morning for public business. In a fortnight two vacant adjoining shops in the Manchester Unity building have been transformed into a fine modernly-equipped office to serve the postal requirements of the rapidly developing business area to the west of Queen Street. The public area of the new office is neat and well arranged. Eight writing cubicles line the wall opposite the counter, behind which are arranged a series of small cabinets similar to mail boxes. The whole of the furnishings is dark and presents a pleasing contrast to the white wails of the interior. A telephone cabinet is also provided for public use. The other portion of the office is reserved for the handling of mails and other business of the department. Outside, in the front of the office are postal boxes, resplendent in a new coat of red paint. The office is in chai-ge of Mr. G. I\ Church, who has one assistant. The business this morning was not heavy, but was steady throughout, and it is expected that before the week is out a substantial volume will be handled.
