THRILL FOR CLIMBERS
COOLIE RUNS AMOK AND STABS COMRADE HIMALAYAN DIFFICULTIES Times Cable. Reed. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. There was a dramatic incident at the little hamlet of Tingling, while the Kunchinjunga expedition was en route to Nepal. A coolie ran amok, stabbed another coolie with a hillman's curved knife and attempted to brain Mr. Smythe with a stone. The others overpowered and bound him. The expedition camped for the first time at Tingling, but is now en route to Kang Pass, by which it will enter Nepal. A heavy snowstorm dispirited the natives, many of whom refused to continue the journey, but the majority of whom were persuaded to go on.
