MAJESTIC
“JAZZ HEAVEN” Sparkling comedy, lilting music, and a heart throb or two—that’s “Jazz Heaven,” which is now at the Majestic Theatre. Judging from the interest shown in this Radio Picture, directed by Melville Brown and co-featuring John Mack Brown and Sally O’Neill, it could run on like the babbling brook, for it has all the elements of appeal that make for a smashing hit.
Frequently one has been asked, “What are the elements of a good theme song?” The answer can be found in the theme song for “Jazz I-leaven.” which the programme tells you is the combined effort of Oscar Levant and Sidney Clare. Probably every audifilm has a theme son, but only now and then does one linger to “click” when the picture has been forgotten. “Someone,” as sung by John Mack Brown and Sally O’Neill, belongs to the class that will live long. It has real melody and appealing lyrics—and, best of all the story is deftty interw'oven with this lilting love ballad. John Mack Brown, as the would-be song writer who is passed by Lady Luck until a little Irish maid in the person of Sally O’Neill helps him compose, helps him write, and helps him to get an audition, will win converts with his part in “Jazz Heaven.” Miss O’Neill proves she can be just as convincing in singing and talking pictures as she was in the numerous roles she played in the silent drama. The Majestic’s programme also includes an English Pathe Review, a sound cartoon and a “Newspaper News Gazette.”
