FAST BASKETBALL
FIRST ROUND VICTORS AUCKLAND AND OTAGO Otago and Auckland were victorious in their respective matches in the first round of the inter-University basketball tournament, played in the Auckland College courts this morning, l’lay was fast and clean throughout, but the Clever, consistent combination of the home team was outstanding, and augurs well for success in the finals. Auckland is the present holder of the championship. Games were played under last year’s rules, which allows the tip of the post holding the net to extend a few inches above the net ring. All teams took advantage of this, and scoring xvas rather higher than would have been possible under the new regulations, in which the ring must be flush with the top of the post.
