PIPER AT CHRISTCHURCH
GOOD TRIP IN MONOPLANE FAREWELL FROM MANGERE A flight from Auckland to Christchurch was made yesterday by Fly-ing-Officer 11. L. Piper in his Desoutter monoplane, Aorangi. He left the Mangere airdrome at 6.15 yesterday morning and passed over Wellington about five hours later. At 1.45 he landed at Christchurch after a most successful trip. On Thursday, the machine was assembled at Mangere under the supervision of Flying-Officer R. J. Copley, ground engineer to the Auckland Aero Club, and later in the day it was thoroughly tested in readiness for its southern flight. Flying-Officer Piper, who made the trip solo, was given a farewell from Mangere by his colleague, FlyingOfficer C. Kay, and Flight-Lieutenant D. M. Allan, instructor to the Aero Club. WELCOME TO KAY SEDDON MEMORIAL COLLEGE Students of the Seddon Memorial Technical College welcomed FlyingOfficer C. Kay, who is an old boy of the college, in the college hall on Thursday. In extending the congratulations of the boai'd and the school, Air. H. S. W. King, chairman of the board of managers, said that Flying-Officer Kay had attended the school in 1918. Air. E. James, president of the Paststudents’ Association, presented him with a gold badge of the association, and an honorary life-membership was conferred upon him. Flying-Officer Kay was greeted with enthusiastic applause by the pupils. He referred to his trip and recounted some of the difficulties which FlyingCfficer H. L. Piper and he .had faced.
