Obstetrics Appeal
I MAYORESS OF ONEI HUNGA ORGANISES SUC- 1 CESSFUL FUNCTION i L PLAIN AND COSTUME DANCE The Onehunga contribution to the fund for establishing a chair of obstetrics was considerably augmented on Wednesday evening,, when a plain and fancy dress ball, organised by the' Mayoress, Miss Morton, was held in the Orpheum Hall. The function was under the patronage of the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, and members of the borough council and their wives. The “Merry Jesters” Orchestra provided the music and Miss Daphne High am and Mr. Tornquist played violin and piano solos. Miss Delia Newtan (harem girl) secured the highest number of votes for the best fancy dress for women, and Mr. L. Scott for | the men. Among those present were: Miss Morton, (Mayoress), who wore apricot georgette and lace; Miss M. Morton, pale pink and flame georgette; Miss Edith Morton, hula girl; Miss Ermeln Morton, blue embossed georgette and satin; Mrs. Himainen, blue georgette and gold lace; Mrs. H. McGahan, navy blue crepe de chine; Mrs. Puddle, black georgette embossed with spangles over silk; Mrs. A. Russell, cottage window; Mrs. G. Chapman, rose silk georgette; Mrs. T. Wathew, beige georgette; Mrs. S. Vella, rose georgette; Mrs. Chilman, cream satin; Mrs. Coyle, wine crepe de chine and gold lace; Miss Manuel, blue georgette and silver lace; Mrs. S. Strong, turquoise blue georgette and crystal trimmings; Mrs. C. P. Newton, Maori wahine, full Maori costume; Mrs. Higham, brown crepe de chine and black lace; Mrs. Ireland, pale bine crepe de chine. Miss L,. Gibb, in marone lace over satin; Miss R. Gibb, gold lace over satin; Miss Dorn a Wriglit, rose satin beaute; Miss Olive Rick, salmon satin beaute and embossed net; Miss C. F. Aulder, grey and blue beaded georgette with tulle skirt: Miss Marjorie Tyne, shell pink taffeta with frilled skirt; Miss T. Anderson, striped georgette; Miss Chilman, pink crepe de chine and gold lace; Miss Mavis W r vllie, powder blue charmeuse; Miss Barbara M. Master, powder blue georgette' Miss Lilian Ogles, mauve satin with ’sequins; Miss Iris Craig, cyclamen sreorgette and silver lace; Miss Daphne Hlgliam, powder blue georgette and silver lace; Miss Beryl Barker, black tulle embroidered in gold; Miss D. pale blue crepe de chine relie\ed ’with silver lace; Miss G. Nicholls, silk net. Miss Delia’Newton, harem girl; Miss 33. Clark, saxe bh*e and silver beaded net; Miss J. Nicholls. blue georgette with sequin trimming; Miss G. Toung, \ieux. rose crepe de chine. SUCCESSFUL DANCE FIRE BRIGADE FUNCTION A successful dance was organised recently by the Taumarunui Fire Brigade. The hall had been beautifully decorated by the members and friends. The music was supplied by Mrs. Martin’s Broad wav Orchestra, extras being played by Mr. C. Plank. Mr. M. Sarah acted as M.C. and the women’s committee was responsible for the supper.
